Certified biodegradable

TÜV Austria confirms the biodegradability of LENZING™ fibers

It is now official: LENZING™ fibers are 100 percent  biodegradable in soil and in water. More than a half a century ago, efforts were commenced in the Austrian town of Lenzing, to extract cellulose from wood and process them to become fibers. Today, Lenzing AG is an international company playing a leading role in cellulose fiber production.

The premium textile brand TENCEL™ has already established itself very successfully in the clothing industry. However, there is something that many people do not know: fibers from Lenzing AG are already present in many hygiene articles, primarily in wet wipes. Even fewer consumers know that many wet wipes products contain plastic fibers, which can pollute our environment for centuries if they end up in the environment. Wet wipes of VEOCEL™ fibers made by Lenzing are on the one hand completely biodegradable in water, soil or compost. Looking at a full product life cycle, these fibers originate in the forest, are produced in an environmentally friendly way, and then are able to return to the soil to biodegrade back to its natural components. To make this official, the complete biodegradability of the LENZING™ fibers was certified by TÜV Austria, claiming that the cellulose fibers from Lenzing’s production are completely degradable in all natural and industrial settings in soil, in compost, and in fresh and salt water.
