VEOCEL™ fibers biodegrade quickly

Wipes made of VEOCEL™ branded fibers are free of fossil-based materials and can completely biodegrade within only a few weeks. Such specialty fibers are able to contribute to the reduction of plastic use in our everyday care products and to the conservation of our environment and oceans.

Anyone who wants to know what wet wipes are made of will look at the printed list of ingredients on the product’s packaging. However, in so doing, information about the ingredients contained in the lotion is more likely to be found rather than of the material of the wipe. In fact, wet wipes are made from a variety of fibers. At present, there is no requirement to label the fabric materials on wipes packages. As such, it is safe to assume that the wet wipes products, you buy and use, contain plastic fibers such as polyester. If disposed of incorrectly, the not biodegradable plastic remains from the wipes may still be able to be found in the environment 500 years from now. Until then, those plastic parts are grounded into increasingly smaller units. Some parts become so small that they are called microplastics. In this form, these miniscule plastic particles can also find their way into human food through fish and crustaceans.

In contrast to many commercially available wipes with hidden plastic particles, wet wipes and moist toilet tissue paper made of and co-branded with VEOCEL™ fibers completely biodegrade within a short period of time. The wipe materials made from these cellulose fibers can completely break down in all environments – land and water - and return to its natural origins. Cellulose is the most abundant natural polymer on the planet, part of every plant and tree, and ends up in our oceans, for example via leaves or wooden parts. Therefore, it can be assumed, that this material is also harmless for environment.
