Where does the wood for VEOCEL™ fibers come from?

VEOCEL™ Lyocell and VEOCEL™ special viscose are fibers of botanic origin and are, as a rule, extracted from the renewable raw material, wood. They are integrated in the natural cycle and as such they have a positive impact on our environment. But where does the wood come from which is used for the VEOCEL™ fibers?

Wood from sustainably managed forests is procured for pulp production at Lenzing, to produce VEOCEL™ fibers. More than 50 % of the wood processed by Lenzing comes from sustainably managed Austrian forests. The wood to be processed may, however, also be purchased in other countries. Thinning wood is always used in the production of VEOCEL ™ fibers.

Purchased pulp

The pulp which Lenzing purchases in addition, comes mainly from wood from the forests of Scandinavia, the Baltic States, South Africa and the USA. Here eucalyptus, beech wood, spruce, birch and pine wood, processed from sustainably managed forests, dominate. When purchasing the pulp, proof of certification of the wood used is of vital importance.

At Lenzing overall more than 99 % of the raw material wood is certified and controlled. In this respect the guidelines also apply to the social provisions and human rights which have to be adhered to. This means that the wood is not allowed to come from the Amazonas area, endangered rainforests or West Africa.
