If you have yet to read the first part of our ‘Ask me anything’ series with ClimatePartner, let’s get you up to speed. We chatted with Melanie Hofer, Customer Management at ClimatePartner, to learn more about their organization and mission to enable customers to take climate action into their own hands.
For the second part of our series, we will continue our insightful chat with Melanie on the importance of sustainability and how future generations should address climate change.
Q: What are some key challenges you have faced when sharing the sustainability message? How did you overcome those challenges?
Melanie: We not only help our customers achieve carbon neutrality, but also help them to communicate effectively and strategically about it. There are often times where people have heard of the term ‘carbon neutrality’, but they do not truly understand it. To decipher the meaning of the term, ClimatePartner has helped to clarify the process of calculating, reducing, and offsetting unabated CO2 emissions. It is crucial to be honest and transparent. We have also created our own label and ID-tracking to provide all relevant information for our customers to effectively and knowledgably speak to their audience.
Q: Why is it so important for our generation and future generations to address climate change?
Melanie: Well, this is a no brainer, but climate change is affecting everyone. All over the world, countries are experiencing rising sea levels and severe weather conditions and these are seriously threatening the way that we live. If we want our children and grandchildren to have a safe and healthy future, we need to act now. Whether it is learning more about how to take part in preventing climate change, partnering with a charity organization or making eco-conscious purchase decisions, we can all play a part in helping the earth become a better place to live in.
Q: Can you share with us a few things you do to take care of our planet?
Melanie: In terms of companywide efforts, taking care of the planet is our everyday work. We manage and develop carbon offset projects that are proven to sequester CO2 emissions whilst improving the livelihoods of the people onsite. As mentioned previously, we also advise and consult our customers on effective reduction measures. This is how we care for the environment.
Personally, I try to commute by public transport or bike when heading into the office, and we also encourage that as a general office culture. This also applies to business travel if possible. Recently, I have observed that most of my colleagues follow a mainly vegetarian or vegan diet, which results in a smaller environmental footprint and less energy for food production.
Q: Any final messages to share with our readers?
Melanie: Thank you for having me. It has been a delight speaking with you on ClimatePartner and effective climate strategy communication. I hope that we all be part of the solution and take climate action now.
