Anyone who appreciates skin friendliness and easy application above everything else can still treat the environment with care: cellulose fibers combine performance with sustainability and are thus a good choice twice over.
Nowadays, sustainability is a must for every new product. Using renewable resources in wet wipes, such as wood, is an alternative to fossil-based materials, often referred to as plastics. It is good to know that the ecological advantages of the renewable raw material wood, from which cellulose fibers for wipes are made of, are plenty. On the one hand, trees from responsibly managed forests have low water consumption in their life cycles and on the other hand, forests do not need to compete over agricultural land required for the production of foodstuffs. Forests grow where farming is not possible or allowed and also do not require any artificial irrigation. Trees convert sunlight and CO2 into cellulose and other natural substances, thereby allowing trees to grow leaves and support stable wood production. For the production of cellulose fibers, the wood is then converted through an environmentally friendly production process into cellulose fibers and other products such as xylose used for sugar free chewing gum or acidic acid used for vinegar. The fibers themselves contribute to the natural cycle as well and are able to break down 100%, in a biological way, back to its starting products, without leaving behind any dangerous residues. Hence, the sustainable raw material cycle comes full circle.
The naturally derived wood-based cellulose is also the main reason why products with fibers from Austrian’s Lenzing AG are so skin compatible. In textiles, the fibers are characterised by an especially high wear comfort, able to absorb perspiration well and are also soft and supple. Likewise, in the field of hygiene products, materials made of cellulose fibers have become indispensable. Thanks to their high absorptive power and liquid management performance, they are ideal for all kinds of cosmetic, baby, and other wet wipes. Lotions and liquids are absorbed with ease and released in a controlled manner.
